A Beginner’s Guide to Public Transit in Bremen

A Beginner’s Guide to Public Transit in Bremen

Living in Bremen may seem difficult, especially considering the cold, winter weather. However, Bremen’s public transit system is the reason you can go around Germany easily.

First and foremost, public transportation is environmentally friendly which is valued in Germany. It helps reduce the individual carbon footprint, therefore, opting for it instead of getting a car contributes to sustainability.

With options such as buses, trains, and trams students have a wide variety of options to get around Bremen. Our university has started offering a country-wide semester ticket as a part of student enrollment. You get unlimited travel on VBN services and get to use regional trains to go to any city of your choice. Not only does this semester ticket help you save money, but it's also extremely convenient.

Our campus is well-connected with the city although it could seem a bit far. There are trains directly leading to the Bremen HBF when you want to go downtown Bremen. The most optimal train stop is Bahnhof Schönebeck as it is a 7-minute walk from campus. Trains are usually every 15 minutes during peak times and every 30 minutes during off-peak times. Also, if you want to take a short trip to Vegesack you can go to your nearest bus stop and take the bus. The 94 and 95 are the buses to take, which come around every 10 minutes. To ensure you will not miss any of the trains or buses, downloading the DeutscheBahn App will solve this problem as it has the most accurate scheduled timings.

Bremen’s public transit system is sustainable, convenient, and affordable for students in university. With a wide variety of options of frequent trains, buses, and trams that you can use with the semester ticket, it makes it an easier process of getting around Bremen and beyond.
